The Georgia Department of Education is implementing a nationally aligned framework for a Multi-tiered System of Supports through a State Personnel Development Grant.  Georgia’s Tiered System of Supports for Students aligns and supports existing district, state, and national initiatives.  This session will serve to articulate the essential components of Georgia’s Tiered System of Supports for Students as well as the best practices utilized to implement an MTSS framework with fidelity.  Additionally, the session will provide information regarding the plan for implementation in the cohort districts and those universal supports that will be available to all districts.

Fiscal policy decisions are central to understanding United States History and US government economic decisions. This workshop provides history and government teachers with lessons on topics such as medicare, social security, national defense, Andrew Jackson and the Second National Bank, and the creation of public policy. Participants will receive either 5 lesson plans for the history classroom or 5 lesson plans for the government classroom. No registration fee, substitute teacher reimbursement, and lunch provided.

Please join us for the upcoming December 11th Counselors’ Consortium!  Our guest speaker will be Cheryl Benefield from the GDOE.  Cheryl is the Project Manager for Safe and Drug Free Schools in Georgia and has been instrumental in the advancement of Project AWARE (Advancing Wellness and Resilience Education), as well as, being an acknowledged trainer for NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Georgia.  She will be sharing with us possible warning signs, symptoms, and predictors of Childhood Suicide.

Sherry Parrish will lead professional learning for teachers to learn how to develop fluency and numerical reasoning using Number Talks, a 5 to 15-minute classroom routine designed to help students build mental math and computation strategies. Teachers will participate in Number Talks, rehearse facilitating Number Talks, analyze classroom video clips, and learn how to use Number Talks to support the Georgia Standards of Excellence in Mathematics and the Standards of Mathematical Practice.

The Hearing Officer and Tribunal member class covers discipline law, due process, hearing procedures and practices. A number of relevant cases will be cited dealing with various aspects of conducting hearings for regular and special education students. A homework assignment is required in order to complete the basic training required by State Board Rule 160-4-8-.15. All persons completing the class will receive a certificate certifying their qualifications for participating in disciplinary hearings.
